Last week, members of TJ's faculty, staff, and student body attended the National Association of Independent Schools PoCC (People of Color Conference) and the concurrent SDLC (Student Diversity Leadership Conference). This conference connects educators from around the globe with a shared mission of supporting and uplifting students, staff, and families of color at independent schools and in the greater community.
Director of Development Liz Lee and Director of Student Affairs Marie De Jesus both served on the conference's local planning committee, of which Ms. De Jesus is also a chair. In these roles, Ms. De Jesus and Ms. Lee each spoke in front of the full assembly to introduce sections of the proceedings. Student Yoanna Choi '26 also had an important part to play: she performed an arrangement by composer Kristen Yeon-Ji Yun for a crowd of more than 6000 people as part of the conference's efforts to spotlight local student musical talent.
We can't wait to discover all that the members of our community learned and experienced at this year's gathering.
