Welcome to Thomas Jefferson School

If your child is curious, motivated, and thoughtful, they will find a home at TJ. We are a coeducational day and boarding school for grades 7–12 where high expectations are paired with strong support, and where learning is both demanding and deeply rewarding.

A small community with big impact. With an average of 12 students per class, teachers know how each child learns. They notice strengths, support challenges, and spark curiosity. Students are encouraged to stretch themselves, but are never left to do so alone. In this setting, high-ability students thrive because they are surrounded by peers who share their enthusiasm for learning.

Academics that are broad and rigorous. Ranked in the top two percent nationally for STEM and the #1 college-prep private high school in Missouri, TJ offers advanced coursework in math and science alongside frequent labs and enriching partnerships. Students also immerse themselves in the humanities, reading full texts in English seminars, studying three languages over six years, and deepening their creativity through the arts.

Preparation that goes beyond college admission. TJ graduates attend selective universities such as the University of Chicago, Yale, Cornell, and University College Dublin. Individualized college counseling, years of practice in discussion and independent work, and opportunities for leadership in clubs, athletics, and the arts ensure our students stand out in their first college classrooms and beyond.

Support for the whole student. We know that gifted students may balance high achievement with stress or learning differences. At TJ, no one is overlooked. Teachers, advisors, and our school counselor work closely with students to help them balance achievement with well-being, preparing them not just for college but for life.
