Moderator — Thomas Van Horn ‘14 (they/them/theirs) attended Washington University for Undergraduate and Medical School, and matched into the Anesthesiology residency at Washington University/Barnes Jewish Hospital (so a true "lifer"). They are the first nonbinary person in the department of Anesthesiology, and use their presence in the department to advocate for more inclusive practices in both the University and the Hospital. In their free time (yes, it's possible to have free time in residency!), they enjoy hiking, traveling, and checking out new restaurants with their partner Elliott.
Guest Speaker — Sara Halili ’18 attended TJ from 2015-18 as a Charles E. Merrill Jr. Eastern European Scholar. After graduating from TJ, she attended Smith College ('22) where she majored in biochemistry and did research on the molecular biology of Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs). She is currently a first-year MD-PhD student at University of Connecticut School of Medicine.
Guest Speaker — Maheetha Bharadwaj ’12 Dr. Bharadwaj graduated with a Bachelors of Science with Honors in Biology and a Masters of Science in biomedical informatics from Stanford University. She went on to obtain a Masters of Philosophy in Genomic Medicine from the University of Cambridge. She went on to participate in the MD program in Harvard Medical School. In 2022, she marched into Urology, at University of Washington, in Seattle, 6-year tract, which includes a year of research. At UW, Dr. Bharadwaj’s research interests include finding the intersection between genomics and equity research particularly in kidney and bladder cancers. Outside of clinical work, she helped start the UW Medical School chapter of Virtual Bedside Concerts, a where medical students play music virtually for patients in the ICU. In her free time, she enjoys taking and teaching dance workshops, watching TV shows, and creating TikToks under then username @dancing_uro_doc!
