Semifinalists in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program

Two TJ students, Julian Godbey '23 and Alex Lee '23, will advance to the Finalist level to compete for National Merit Scholarships.
On Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2022, officials of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) announced the names of approximately 16,000 Semifinalists in the 68th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Julian and Alex now have the opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $30 million that will be offered next spring.

As juniors, Julian and Alex entered the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2021 Preliminary SAT/PSAT, which served as an initial screen of program entrants. In each annual National Merit Scholarship Program, about 50,000 academically talented high school students are honored, but only some 16,000 of them are named Semifinalists. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists represents less than 1% of U.S. high school seniors and includes the highest-scoring entrants from each state.

Join us in congratulating Julian and Alex on this most momentous achievement!
