TJ Freezes Tuition and Fees for 2022-2023 Academic Year

In response to the increasing economic burdens placed upon families due to COVID, Thomas Jefferson School (TJ) has decided to freeze the total cost of attendance for the 2022-2023 academic year. Throughout the school's 76-year history, this is the first time in decades that the board has made this decision.

“We recognize this year has brought challenges that extend beyond the health and safety concerns due to COVID to our community,” said Matt Troutman, Ph.D., TJ’s Head of School. “TJ is not immune from increased costs due to inflation, but we also recognize that we are partners with our families in educating their children.”

In previous years, tuition and fees were separately charged to families, increasing each year in relation to the inflation rate. This year, TJ will not charge families separate fees and will instead publish a total cost per program for their day students and five- and seven-day boarding students, keeping the cost flat compared to the previous year.

“It is the board’s intention to help families reduce at least one burden while the world continues to increase burdens elsewhere. "The TJ community is the beating heart of our institution; our program may be unique, but the people are what bring it to life. This was a relatively easy decision for the board to make,” remarked President of TJ’s Board of Trustees, alumnus Jimmy Holloran.

As always, TJ remains committed to tuition assistance. Nearly 40 percent of the student body receives some level of financial aid. In keeping with the school’s commitment to creating a diverse academic environment for their students, their financial aid program allows TJ to assist families who may not be able to afford the full cost of attendance.

With 81 students from 6 different countries, TJ is Missouri’s most diverse private high school and top boarding school, according to The school seeks to provide the strongest possible college-preparatory program within an international, multicultural community. TJ strives to embrace multiple perspectives, encourage critical thinking, and develop and nurture courageous, empathetic individuals at all levels, providing students with resources and inspiration to better their communities and the world.
