At Thomas Jefferson School, we recognize that choosing an independent school is a significant decision for families - both academically and financially. Nearly 30 percent of our student body receives some level of financial assistance. We are committed to creating a diverse academic environment for our students, and our financial aid program allows us to assist families who may not be able to pay the full cost of tuition. The majority of financial aid awards are based on need. We do offer a limited number of scholarships. Please note: all scholarship and financial aid decisions are made completely separate from the admissions process.
We subscribe to the School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS). Our financial aid committee uses this as a tool to assess a family’s need and to compare the financial need of all applicants so that we can make awards as fairly as possible. Thomas Jefferson School, not SSS, makes all financial aid decisions. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that the school will be able to meet the demonstrated financial need of every family that applies for an award.
In situations where divorce or separation is an issue, Thomas Jefferson School requires both natural parents and any stepparents to submit information. A family’s ability to contribute to its child’s education is based on the income and assets of both natural parents and any stepparents.
Applying for Financial Aid
1. Complete the Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS) and submit it to the School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS). The system will begin accepting applications for the 2019-20 school year on October 2, 2018. Our School Code is 7666.The fee of $49 is nonrefundable. Once your PFS is submitted, it cannot be withdrawn from the SSS system.
2. Mail a photocopy of your current federal tax return (including all schedules and a copy of the 1040 form) directly to Thomas Jefferson School, attn Mr. Dale Bording. Do not send your tax return to the SSS.
Next Steps
After you pay for and submit your PFS, you’ll have access in the PFS Online to a section called “My Documents.” You can upload the additional documents we require there. We will communicate our financial aid decision to you directly. To make our decision, we use the information from the PFS as a starting point. We also consider our school policies and practices, as well as the budget we have available.
Statement of Non-Discrimination
