Discover St. Louis

There’s more than one way to get to know us.

Meet Us in St. Louis

TJ is just outside St. Louis, a city that gives our students access to much more than what happens on campus.

St. Louis combines the cultural life and resources of a major American city with the ease of a smaller community. Universities, museums, performances, parks, research institutions, professional sports, and historic neighborhoods are all within reach of TJ.

For students, the city becomes part of their education and daily experience. Classes regularly include cultural outings, lectures, field experiences, and visits connected to academic work. Boarding students also become increasingly comfortable navigating a real American city while remaining part of a small residential community.

For families coming from farther away, St. Louis is also remarkably well connected.

Its central location keeps major U.S. cities within a relatively short flight and makes international travel straightforward through connections across the country.

A Major City at a Manageable Scale

St. Louis offers an unusual balance for teenagers. Students can experience the art, science, history, universities, culture, and energy of a major city while returning each day to a school community where people know them well.

The City Becomes Part of the Education

At TJ, St. Louis is much more than the city beyond campus.

A subject discussed around a seminar table can lead students to a university, museum, performance, garden, lecture, or field experience where they can encounter it in a different way. The city gives teachers opportunities to extend what students are studying without treating a field trip as separate from the academic program.

Universities

Washington University and Saint Louis University put major research universities within easy reach of campus.

Arts & Culture

Museums, concerts, theatre, architecture, and performances connect students with a remarkably rich cultural community.

Science & Nature

The Missouri Botanical Garden, Saint Louis Zoo, Science Center, Forest Park, and other institutions extend learning beyond campus.

A Place to Become More Independent

Learning to navigate the world beyond school is part of growing up at TJ.

Students become familiar with St. Louis through classes, activities, outings, and time spent together beyond campus. For boarding students, the city also becomes a place where they can gain confidence navigating an American community with increasing independence.

St. Louis provides plenty to discover without pulling students away from the academic and community life at the center of their TJ experience.
