Clubs & Activities

Preparing for life after TJ means getting involved early.

Clubs & Activities

At TJ, getting involved means having room to contribute from the start.

Students write the newspaper, perform music, build robots, compete in chess and debate, plan events, represent the school, create art, and organize around the ideas that interest them.

Because TJ is small, it does not take years to become involved. A student who joins something can quickly find themselves helping to shape it, and students regularly create new clubs when an interest is not already represented.

More than 20 clubs and organizations are active at TJ, and the list changes as students do.

Take the Lead

At a school this size, everyone can lead. Students organize meetings, plan events, edit publications, lead teams, and turn their ideas into things the whole community can experience.

Start Something

If the club you want doesn't exist, that can be the beginning rather than the end of the conversation. Students regularly build new organizations around their own interests.

What Students Are Doing

Clubs at TJ can be competitive, creative, serious, social, or some combination of all four. What matters is that students have room to pursue interests with other people who care about them.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many clubs and activities does Thomas Jefferson School offer?

More than 20 clubs and student organizations are active at TJ, with offerings changing from year to year as students bring new interests to campus. Current options include robotics, debate, chess, music, student publications, theater, student government, and other academic and creative groups.

Can students start their own clubs at TJ?

Yes. Students regularly create new clubs and activities around interests that are not already represented. Because TJ is a small school, students have real opportunities to shape the organizations they join and introduce new ideas to the community.

Can middle school students participate in clubs and activities?

Yes. Students in grades 7–12 participate in clubs and activities, and many groups bring students from different grades together around shared interests. That means middle school students do not have to wait until high school to get involved.

Do students need experience to join a club or activity?

No. Clubs are a chance to continue something you already enjoy or try something completely new. Some students arrive with plenty of experience, while others discover an interest for the first time at TJ.
