Love Where You Live (and Learn…)

Dear Families,

One of the most memorable aspects of a boarding school experience is the opportunity to live and learn with other students. The lessons that students learn in the residential community are as important as those learned in the classroom. The Residential Life team is honored to have the opportunity to partner with parents to foster the full potential of the students in our care.

The Residential Life Program at Thomas Jefferson School (TJ) provides a safe and nurturing community that inspires respect for self and others, independence and leadership. We are proud to be a diverse community where students are able to openly express their identities and be recognized and celebrated for who they are. Through evening programming and community events, students form close friendships as they develop both practical and social-emotional skills that will serve them well beyond their time at TJ.

Day students at TJ also participate in residential life — something that distinguishes us from many other boarding schools. All upper school, and some middle school students have a desk in a dorm room with boarders, and are encouraged to attend weekend programming. Day families enjoy hosting international students during Thanksgiving break, and alternatively, day students have the option to spend the night or the weekend in the dorms. Some of our day students even choose to become 5-day boarders as to practice independence before college.

I hope that you might be envisioning yourself in our community, and that you will visit us soon!

Sincerely,

Amanda Correa

Thomas Jefferson School gives its students the strongest possible academic background through a classical education. Within a nurturing community, students develop a responsibility for their own learning and a desire to lift up the world with beauty and intellect.
