Susan Stepleton's Bio

Ms. Stepleton’s association with Thomas Jefferson School is through her two children, Thomas (TJ ’98) and Katherine (TJ ’01), and her commitment to the mission and vision of the school. She joined the Board of Trustees in 2001 and was elected the first non-faculty Chairperson in 2005.

Professionally, Ms. Stepleton is President & CEO of Parents as Teachers National Center. Parents as Teachers (PAT) is a parent education and school readiness program offered in all fifty states and six countries outside of the United States. The National Center provides training, curriculum development, research and public policy activity for over 3,200 PAT programs. Prior to this position she was for 13 years Executive Director of Edgewood Children’s Center, a multi-program social service agency located in suburban St. Louis. Other volunteer involvement includes chairing the Dean’s Advisory Committee at George Warren Brown School of Social Work (Washington University) and membership on the Eden Theological Seminary board of directors, as well as participation in a variety of national and local professional organizations impacting the lives of children.

Ms. Stepleton recently completed a Ph.D. in public policy analysis and administration (St. Louis University) and holds masters degrees in social work and German studies (Washington University) and business administration (University of Missouri – St. Louis). She has been married since 1972 to James V. Stepleton, a principal in the law firm of Husch and Eppenberger. Son Tom is now a Ph.D. student at Carnegie Mellon’s Robotics Institute. Daughter Kate is pursuing a masters degree at the University of Chicago’s School of Social Service Administration.
