Greetings from the TJ Parent Association

On behalf of the community of TJ families, we want extend our good wishes and encouragement to anyone seeking the right educational choice for his or her family.  TJ parents are an important part of our school community, and for many of us, the sense of inclusion that we feel here is part of the reason we feel comfortable entrusting TJ with our most important asset: our children.

TJ parents involve themselves in a variety of services and activities organized by the Thomas Jefferson Parents Association (TJPA).  All parents are automatically members; there are no dues.

The TJPA:
•works to bring a diverse and geographically far-flung parent body together by providing opportunities for the parents to meet and socialize with one another.

•raises funds for designated purposes for the school by organizing fundraising activities that include parents, alumni, friends, and community businesses and individuals.  These activities offset expenses for social activities if the activity is not self-sustaining.

•provides resources for parents and faculty by organizing parent information/education meetings and assisting the faculty with activities as requested by faculty.

•provides opportunities for parents and students to express their pride in the school by operating the school store and other activities.

From Opening Day through Graduation, the TJPA is involved in the life of the school.  This year we either helped to coordinate or independently operated the following programs and events: the Homestay Program for seven-day boarders, exam packs, Adviser/Advisee Field Day, a wine dinner during Homecoming Weekend, Trivia Night, the concession stand and school store, bake sales, new-parent get-togethers, and a faculty/staff appreciation luncheon.  Each year the activities may change, but our goal of being involved remains constant.

Joining the TJ Family was the right choice for us, and we hope it is for you, too.

Sincerely,
Dennis and Linda Mertz (TJ parents '07)
