About TJ

• The school was founded in 1946 and offers a rigorous, core classical curriculum to boarding and day students in grades seven through twelve.

• As ranked by the Boarding School Review, the median SAT score of our seniors places us among the top ten boarding schools in the country: 710 reading, 670 math, 690 writing (2070 total).

• 82 students are enrolled in six grades. Our 7-day boarding students come from states such as Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Oklahoma; our 5-day boarders come from cities in Missouri such as Cape Girardeau, Montgomery City, St. Clair, Pacific, and Washington. 12 international students come from countries such as China, Hong Kong, Japan, Mexico, Poland, South Korea, and Taiwan.

• The average grade size is 14.

• 100 percent of the school’s graduates have entered college (see the list of colleges entered by recent graduates).

• There are 12 faculty members, six men and six women. Three are alumni of Thomas Jefferson School.

• The student-teacher ratio is 7:1.

• Seven faculty members live on campus.

• The 20-acre, scenic campus contains seven cottage-style dorms, two academic buildings, a gym, an athletic field, and five tennis courts.

• Each student enjoys a season ticket to the St. Louis Repertory Theatre, and the school attends all six performances as a group. TJ is the Rep’s largest single subscriber!

• Students work hard while school is in session, but they enjoy lengthy vacations: approximately four weeks in winter, three weeks in spring, and the usual 12 weeks in summer.
